DNC Reforestation Across SSY

Dikasuna Nature Conservation Inc. is leading reforestation efforts across the Sinasina-Yonggomugl (SSY) District, aiming to restore degraded areas and strengthen local ecosystems.

Founder and director Kalale Kaupa said the project plays a vital role in improving both the environment and community wellbeing.

“DNC hopes to achieve reforestation of degraded areas. The project contributes to restoring the local environment and livelihood by increasing the supply of fresh oxygen, fresh water, and bringing back wildlife and native trees,” Kaupa said.

The initiative is part of DNC’s ongoing Project Green Lungs programme, which promotes the planting of native species to revive biodiversity and support climate resilience.

Community members and youth volunteers are taking part in planting drives across villages, helping regenerate forest cover and raise awareness about sustainable land management.

The reforestation work also supports the long-term goal of transforming SSY into a conservation model district for Papua New Guinea.

Papua New Guinea loses thousands of hectares of forest each year to logging and farming. Community-based initiatives like Dikasuna’s are vital to restoring natural balance and securing environmental sustainability for future generations.

The reforestation work also supports the long-term goal of transforming SSY into a conservation model district for Papua New Guinea.
