DNC Completes Housing Project
Dikasuna Nature Conservation Inc. has completed construction of 12 sustainable model houses under its community housing project, which began earlier this year and was finished in August 2025.
The initiative is part of DNC’s long-term plan to build environmentally friendly and affordable homes that support rural communities and promote sustainable living.
The team faced several challenges during construction, including limited funding and difficult road and weather conditions that delayed the delivery of materials to the project site.
“Delivering the project with limited funds and poor road access made it difficult to transport materials on time,” DNC said. “We also experienced a shortage of trees to mill timbers and had to regroup when some carpenters left early.”
Despite these setbacks, the organisation said the project continued through teamwork and community support.
The team also addressed negative perceptions within the community. “Some false accusations and misunderstandings about the project’s impact slowed progress, but open communication helped rebuild trust and cooperation.”
The completion of the 12 houses marks an important step in DNC’s effort to combine conservation with community development, showing how environmental principles can guide construction and housing design.
Papua New Guinea faces ongoing challenges in providing affordable and sustainable housing, particularly in rural areas where infrastructure is limited. Dikasuna’s project offers a model for community-led housing that protects both people and the environment.
