Project Green Lung
Project “Green Lung” was launched in the first week of January 2021 as our flagship Tree Planting Initiative. Inspired by the idea that forests serve as the “green lungs” of the Earth, the project seeks to create a sustainable and lasting impact on both the environment and local communities. With an ambitious target of planting 1,000,000 trees by the year 2030, the initiative aims to rehabilitate arid lands, restore biodiversity, and cultivate thriving green forests that will benefit future generations.
Before the official launch of Project Green Lung, an estimated 5,000 trees had already been planted, laying the groundwork for the initiative. To sustain this effort, Dikasuna Nature Conservation Inc. has established the largest tree nursery in Simbu Province, Papua New Guinea, spanning between 500 and 1,000 hectares of land and involving eight villages across the SSY district.
This nursery serves as the backbone of the project, providing a continuous supply of seedlings to ensure daily planting activities. With this capacity, DNC is well-positioned to advance steadily toward its ambitious target of planting one million trees by 2030, while fostering ecological restoration and community-driven conservation.
