DNC Builds Houses for Its Volunteers
Dikasuna Nature Conservation (DNC) has successfully completed a milestone community initiative — the construction of 12 volunteer houses. This project stands as a testament to collaboration, generosity, and the dedication of local and international partners who believe in supporting the people behind conservation work.
How It All Began
The idea first took root when David Kaupa, a vital member of the community and the Director of the M’Ltere Foundation, invited DNC members to join him in renovating a local church. Inspired by their commitment and teamwork, Kaupa generously donated funds to the DNC. His contribution provided construction materials and logistical support, laying the foundation for a vision that extended beyond the church renovation — creating permanent housing for DNC’s dedicated volunteers.
Partnership and Support
To bring this idea to life, DNC partnered with its subsidiary company, Mind Travellers, which played a crucial role in the initiative. The company not only contributed additional building materials, tools, and equipment, but also mobilized its workers to assist in the construction process.
The project officially began in January 2024, with the goal of building 12 new houses to accommodate Dikasuna’s hardworking volunteers.
Hands That Built the Homes
What makes this initiative even more special is that the Dikasuna volunteers themselves helped in building the houses. Side by side with skilled workers and community members, the volunteers — who dedicate their time to conservation and social good — put their hands to work, constructing the very homes that would later shelter them.
Completion and Celebration
After one year and six months of dedication, all 12 houses were completed in mid-2025. The houses now stand as more than just buildings; they symbolize gratitude, sustainability, and resilience. Each home represents a safe space for volunteers, ensuring that those who serve their community and the environment have a place to rest, recharge, and continue their vital work.
A Vision Realized
The project is not just about housing; it is about honoring the people who give their energy to conservation efforts. By investing in the well-being of its volunteers, DNC has set a powerful example of how local leadership, community participation, and supportive partnerships can turn a simple idea into a reality that benefits many.
